Valvular heart disease

Valvular heart disease can be congenital or acquired. Acquired valvular heart diseases is often caused by wear sometimes also by inflammation. A disease of the heart valves can be established and assessed with ultrasound of the heart. Nowadays in addition to traditional cardiac surgical methods also minimally invasive catheter-based interventional procedures are available such as the transfemoral aortic valve implantation (TAVI) or Percutanous Mitral Valve Repair System (MitraClip). Very important is the individual assessment of the patient in consultation and close cooperation with the interventional cardiologists and cardiac surgeons (Heart Team).
